Bascom collection, 1770-1896.

There are two main sections of the Bascom Collection. One section, from 1770-1822, contains legal and financial papers concerning the purchase of property at Fort Miller by Barent and John R. Bleecker of Albany. This property was evidently used as a sawmill. The property was previously owned by William Duer and perhaps also the Schuyler family. Hugh Peebles of Half Moon appears in the collection as a correspondent and keeper of accounts.
